opinions on the savage 200

i have a savage 200 243 and was just curious what you guys think about it. i can get a grouping of about 2 to 3 inches shooting off hand at 100 yards i really like the rifle. i hunt with it.

Most Savage bolt actions are very accurate right out of the box. The .243 is an inheritantly accurate round. You should be able to get tighter groups even off handed. With any kind of a steady rest you should at least be able to get 1 to 11/2" groups at 100 yds. Try some different ammo brands to see what your rifle likes. Or better yet, handloads.

If you find that the trigger could be better go to rifle basix for a big time improvment.

2" to 3" off hand!! pretty darn good shooting . Bet with a good sling and trigger you could cut an inch. From a benchrest you may find sub MOA is possible with righ ammo yours rifle likes.

savages tend to like federal and hornaday just saying. if you get a good rest or even a bipod and find the right ammo i bet you can cut those groups in half.

gunguy1997 03-13-2012 07:25 PM

i shoot 100 grain Winchester soft point i have a bipod but i dont use it often since i hunt i try to keep it like its real with the adrenaline and off hand and it really helps

Try a different brand of ammo. Federal always shoots well in my 110 7mmRM. Good suggestion Godale. You may also want to try a lighter bullet.
