I've been thinking .243 Win. but I think I might go 25-06 Rem now as well. Seems like recoil wouldn't be much if any more then the .243 and I can get a wider range of bullet weights.

Thanks all for your help! I ended up finding a marlon xl7s in 25-06 and l o v e it. I put a simmins aetec on it and took to the 100 yd range. Put a bore sight on it at 25 Shot 4 shots at 100 the were on top of each other in an inch group. First 4 shots were so close I really didn't wanna mess with it lol. I want an extended shooting range to see what it will do at 200-300. Yes i know even close to 300 is a stretch for anything and anybody but still.

Moral is. It's a wicked gun

I live and hunt in the wide open some what hilley pasture country . I have used a 25-06 for mule deer and pronghorn hunting , enjoy you rifle. Set up some targets at 100, 200, 300, and 350 yards with the rifle sited in at 2.5 inches high at 100 yards so you know what you rifle is doing at the various ranges. In 1953 I shot my first mule deer with a 270 and over the years I liked trying out different cartridges so I have killed them with a 22-250 Rem, 243 Win, 257 Roberts, 25-06 Rem, 264 Win Mag, 270 Win, and 308 Norma Mag. The 25-06 does not have much recoil and is flat shooting with plenty of bullet energy within 350 yard shooting ranges. Dont know about shots past 350 yards . I stalk to get within 350 yard and closer ranges.
