From my limited experience the 7mm Rem Mag has less felt recoil in the same rifle compared to the .300WM. An F series Savage 110. I have a 7mm Rem Mag and it is fine, but for whitetail I've had bad experiences w/ 140gr Ballistic tips under 100 yards. A basic 129 to 140gr SP are fine for whitetail out to and past what the OP wants. You also need to think about what is comfortable in every aspect of the rifle for you. I prefer an intenal mag well instead of an external box. May seem stupid, but is does matter.

Its a more solid design which gives more strength in a straight line, straigh lines means better recoil path to/through the shooters body.

It does have less ( felt) recoil than the 300 wm, but I do prefer a box mag due to ease of unloading. But the internal box mag stocks have less ( flex ) an I feel that does add a tiny amount of recoil.

Thats the way my 110 30-06 is it has a intenal mag and I prefer it over the external mag because I look at the external as a part that will ware faster and im most likely goin with the 7mm rm because I can find ammo pretty cheap and it has a wide area of bullet weights
