either 70 or 700 in 7mm Rem Mag.

My next rifle I am building off an old Mauser action, .25-06.
Why not look at a 6.5x.06. You can still shoot 87 and 100gr, but also add 140 and 160gr for bigger game such as elk.

Well I have this old Nazi Mauser 98k, barrel is shot out of it, numbers do
not match. Furniture is almost ready for kindling. But the action is in
good, heck almost great shape. 8mm Mauser and the '06's share the same
case head.

So I am going to buy a barrel blank and try my hand at some gunsmithing.
I have a 13x40 engine lathe and bridgeport so the big machining questions
are answered. Any welding will be done with the Miller Dynasty 300DX.
With that action you could hot rod and move to a 6.5-06 AI. You can easily get 3600fps w/ an 85gr or over 2900fps w/ a 140gr. . At 550 yards that gives a velosity of 1950fps and 1200fpe w/ a 140gr. That is pretty outstanding.
Freedom is not free. The best of us always leave too soon.
