This is an amazing gun - especially knowing that it is a family gun and was carried "back then" by them!
You should be very proud!

Thanks Colby,

The old rifle in worn and beat up a bit, even in its condition I am very proud of the rifle knowing some of its history and that one of my ancestors carried it in the civil war.

Thanks again

Here is my old cool gun. It is a Model 1873 Winchester in .38-40 caliber. It was manufactured in 1891. It was passed down to me from my father. He bought it around 1930 and paid $5 for it. That doesn't sound like a lot, but at the time it was almost a weeks pay for him.

MOshooter, I don't know what part of Missouri you are in, but that '73 spent a large chunk of its life in SE MO. I grew up on a farm about 30 miles west of Cape Girardeau.

BTW, it is still fully functional and fairly accurate.

I thought that looked like Show-Me State Patina lol joking
I'm sure you're very proud of the history and heritage of your rifle and should be,it's a beautiful example of firearms from yesteryear.

Thanks for the added information,I live in the central part of the state near Columbia,MO.
