Yeah, IME, milsurps with that "allure" shoot surprisingly

well, also. The majority of my rifles are relics, but I doubt you'd

want to be downrange in a firefight, no matter what kind of nouveau,

almondine, accessorized, hi-cap armament you're packing.

I agree my 03 A3 is my favorite too. I also have a Mosin and a G33/40. In all the other countries everybody has a full auto AK it seem but we can't get anything.

I love the old battle rifles... Its what I love to collect!
I would like to shoot one of the newer '03's. Mines from the 30's and the sights are just too fine... Its very accurate because of this, but as soon as it starts to get dark or on dark backgrounds the sights become very hard to see... and who designed that damn peep on them, its tiny and very hard to see though...

Also I never understood why the Eddiestone 1917 was disliked because it was the "American Enfield", but the Springfield 1903 was loved, Its just a "American Mauser"??

Why do us Detroiters love the Lions, because they are our team. The '03 and the eddystone are american. Thats why we love them.

I love them all, but not what I was asking...
I read the solders "back in the day" really didnt like the 1917 and preferred the 1903.. Because the 1917 was that damn "British" gun.. But that doesnt make sense to me... The 1903 was based off the Mauser.. Its about as German as the 1917 is British.... So why isnt the '03 that damn German gun??
Thats what I dont get...

I'm just guessing on this one, but Americans just seem to have always had an affinity for German guns. I believe the beloved "Kentucky" rifles were developed and made primarily by German immigrants. I'm also guessing there were still a few remaining hard feelings towards the Brits during WWI? The war of 1812 was just 100 years earlier. America was also still looked down on by the Brits as an upstart nation of backwoods hicks at that time. It makes sense that American soldiers would prefer the 03 given attitudes of the day.

I have a 1917 And love to put rounds in paper with it. It's a fine rifle. I have a friend who finds the spring loaded bolt to be strange but I think it's awesome. It's my favorite rifle by far. All original and all fun 30-06.

After shooting my buddies 1917, I like it more than my '03. Its heavier and ugly, but I like the sights better and it has a little less recoil.. The only thing I dont like about the '03 are the sights, thats why I would like to shoot one with the "Garand" style sights
