.7mmRM MV 3058fps 300 yards, V= 2343fps. E= 1707fpe

Load data using IMR4831 for both. Load data from Barnes.

They are not the same at all. While the .270 drops below 1500fpe at 300 yards, the 7mm Rem Mag stretches that well past 300 yards.
I think he was talking about the 7mm-08.

Apples to oranges guy, the 7 mag. a little bit bigger bullet & it sits on a big ol H&H magnum case, lets even them up a bit & see what we get..........
A .270 Win. 90gr. HP, 62grs. of H4350 = 3600 fps.
A 7 Mag. 100gr. HP, 69grs. of H4350 = 3500 fps.
Not a nickels worth of difference................

How is using a different weight bullet the same?? You forgot the fact that 69gr in a .270 is a compacted load and it also is one of the least optimal powders for 7mmRM. The bullet weight I used was the same as was the bullet. Using a 100gr bullet that .270 is closer to 3300..3400fps. Your data is extremely biased.
Your original post was that there was no real difference, then you post varmint bullet weights that are not equal. The .270 has a better BC, but the 7mmRM has a bigger case, just as you stated and a BC that is .01 behind the .270 w/ a 140gr Barnes. Because of this small fact the 7mm has more retained energy. That translates to effective killing range.

Well for $300 I bought it. It is a 110 few years old, 3 rd dbm. Light barrel which I can deal with. The bore is really clean aside from the minor blemishes outside. I'd like to shoot some long range targets but not going to join any matches with this gun. I just want to learn some scope stuff and have it in the safe, that I don't have yet.

Thanks for all you input as well!

The older 110's Are good guns. Their only problem is the trigger. I have a mid 90's 110 in 30-06 that I like. I could not consistently shoot 1in groups with it until I ordered and installed a Rifle Basics trigger. It now shoots .75in groups with 180gr hand loads. A trigger would be a very good upgrade for the gun.

Greeny, I think you'll be very happy with it.
