No. I'm a wood and steel guy. I do Dura-coat firearms though.

You said 7 mm Mag but when you described the gun you said not sure of the options other than -08. That to me could mean it is a 7mm-08 which is not a mag but a 308 necked down to 7mm. The 7 mag has more recoil than the 270 and the 7-08 has less. The 7-08 is about a perfect deer hunting round.

This is the rifle.
I can't tell if it is an axis or 111!

Its a magnum, I added that to the end when I found it.

I guess my hang up now is do I pass and buy a new marlin x7 or is this a good enough deal to get anyhow. With current times a 300 gun is prob worth it either way. I don't know if the axis was even around a few years ago but I also don't know how to identify this one. I should see it tomorrow and look at the barrel.

all I can say is that at my local walmart, they've YET to run out of 270. they've had quite a bit of 30-06 too. those are the 2 rifle calibers that they have on the shelf consistently. they have more .270 than they do .22!!

That I would disargree with.

These are the ballistics both useing 140gr Barnes X boat tail.

.270 MV 2868fps 300 yards, V= 2188fps, E= 1488fpe
.7mmRM MV 3058fps 300 yards, V= 2343fps. E= 1707fpe

Load data using IMR4831 for both. Load data from Barnes.

They are not the same at all. While the .270 drops below 1500fpe at 300 yards, the 7mm Rem Mag stretches that well past 300 yards.

Ok it is a 110 model, but I thought that was as law enforcement model (tactical ish) so it is a little older so maybe a free years ago it was a wood stocked model. I guess I'd consider it between the 270 and e3 0-06. Which is ok, its a bird in the hand...going in the morning.
