In some cases the AK47 is better then the M16 it may not have the range but for CQB it's great.
There is no way to argue with that statement.

They are putting in effect the Sabr. Socom and sf often use it now. For the ones that think you'll walk away from a 5.56 like another blog said it's not likely speed induces force and fragmentation produces quit nice effects

Default 5.56

The A2 is a good weapon, I carried it and I liked it. The NATO Ball FMJ round is more powerful than many non-military shooters who've never owned one think. But most basic ground troops can't shoot it accurately at long ranges, consistently. I liked the M14 better, (XM21 especially) though for combat situations I'd rather have it w/o the wood stock. It's being used currently in Afganistan too, with great results.

Our military is currently using numerous different rifle platforms and types, from the .50 on down, and it's working well for them. Flexibilty is key to modern warfare. We've finally learned we must adapt to the situation.

JonM stated many important FACTS.

also as important is this. If you think our troops are only running m193 55gr fmj and m855 62gr fmj.............boy are you naive.

I have a family member currently serving in the sand-box, and his issued ammo is 77gr Sierra Match Kings. As is every member of his team.

Fmj is FMGHEY.
Shooter ready....
