If the wood looks great, get it. You can treat it to resist weather. With a wood stock, when you store the rifle, remove the trigger group to prevent wood compression. That leads to a loose trigger group and loss of accuracy.

Best all around rifle ever made, IMO. You are lucky to be able to live in one of the most beautiful places anywhere, AND you can have a great M14 there, too.

Let me know if you need any more help. The thread pitch on the gas cylinder lock is metric on the ChiComs (I forget the pitch, sorry) so try not to mess them up.

One of these days I'd like to come down and shoot it.

You'all can support the Communists, I'd rather buy a Springfield.

When Springfields come down to $500.00 than I will by one. Capitalizium is all about getting the best bang for your buck.

I'm not sure the Springfields are available in NZ. I would not buy a new ChiCom for the reason you state.

You should post up some pics when you get a chance to make those of us who can't afford the Springfield and aren't allowed by Uncle NannySam to get the Norinco even MORE jealous.

Congratulations!

the only springfield at our gunshop is actually nz$5000 which is about 3000 US i think.
