Don't worry, I didn't know about it either, but then again I refer to any type of rifle as just a rifle .

The biggest issue is you have to work with the metalic cartridge which is more than 100 year old technology. The same technology that brought us the internal combustion engine.

I'd like to see a weapon with unlimited ammo capacity, adjustable "Knockdown" power, yet light weight; much like the AR platform. Think outside the box.

I like the Idea of the 7.62X39. Build that SUR.

Unlimited ammunition capacity - A weapon that doesn't need reloading because it does not use a metallic cartridge system. "Plasma rifle in 40 watt range."

Adjustable knockdown power - "Set phasers to stun."

Fantasy stuff, but things that undoubtedly will happen at some time in the future.

A new slant on the AR system chambered with the 7.62X39 would be a definite game changer on the battlefield. Reliability, weight, accuracy, would all be issues to be addressed, but keep that plasma rifle in the back of your mind.

Why do people keep on making up acronyms? Every major publication/manufacturer refers to black rifles as modern sporting arms. Yet we are supposed to figure out an acronym for a car that is applied to a rifle. Sport utility vehicle...Not a sport utility rifle.

Same reason why old people became mature adults. It sounds better. I was selling a dot sight on eBay and was slapped for non-compliance, because I mentioned the AR. Those two letters together are taboo. Ever since I've been writing "modern semi-auto" or "Stoner design". No problemo.
