Ok, fine. I'm using a short stroke piston drive so the weapon is durable. I'm also using a bolt carrier that will rotate 180° and can be changed from say a right handed gun to a left handed gun(there will be ejecting ports on both sides, you close one but keep the other open). I will have a quick change caliber and barrel system. The included calibers will be 5.56, 6.8, and 7.62. The fire rate is going to be around 600 rpm but as you guys know that changes from caliber to caliber. I'm trying to find some other features to incorporate. Is that a little more clear.

Actually, I wish the guy well with this. We are being a little harsh only because we doubt, but people doubted others that have come up with some great inventions in the past. Never know.

I think its the word "assault" that got everyone though so.....

Sounds good so far, which 7.62 will it use?

If I were to guess it would be the 7.62x39, the x51 would need to have a longer action.
At least this way there is a possibilty that the same mags could be used.

What if this thing turns out to be the Medusa of the rifle world?. . . . . Where's Trez?

Now this is interesting!

Good on you Tier1! You've taken the ribbing quite well. I think 99% would have done a grandiose "I'm taking my bat and ball and leaving!".

If you haven't done so already, introduce yourself in the Introductions forum. I think you'll fit in just fine here!

I'm thinking 7.62by39 because the point of this rifle is too one day replace the m16 as the standard rifle of the us armed forces. Any way the point of the 7.62 by 39 mm is say an infantry company is trapped by hundreds of enemy militia. The soldiers would begin to run out of ammo pretty quick so all they would have to do would be change the top receiver to receive 7.62 by 39 mm go get a mag off of a dead militia man and now he has ammo.

I hope it is in 7.62x39 that would make sense. And I do wish him lick with it. So far his idea has some merit
