I had a #3 in 45-70. It is the same action as the #1 but with much different furniture. Check the loading books and on line loading data. Some have special loads specifically for the Ruger #1 . Max loads for the 45-70 were only 200 fps slower than the 458 Win Mag in the Rugers. The 30-40 is similar to the 300 Savage in power on standard loads. Factory loads are light because of the Krags weak lock up. The Krags have to be held under 40kpsi but the Rugers will handle much higher pressures.
