Default New Baby- First Mosin

So I got a 1943 Mosin Nagant yesterday. 106 dollars after tax. Came with ammo pouch, tools, solvent/oil canister(?) sling, bayonet, and a new school cable lock.

The thing is a beauty, I love everything about it. Checked the firing pin and it is protruding just enough but not too much. The only issues is the front sight seems a little tweaked and the barrel(?) or the wooden grip is moving. I have done some quick looking around on how to fix this (the loose barrel or grip, still unsure if it's the barrel or the wood moving) but I haven't found a satisfactory answer, chew me out and tell me to use the search function if you must... any suggestions would be appreciated.

What's moving is the finger guard atop the

stock. The barrel assembly is screwed to the trigger

assembly through the stock, so it's not going anywhere,

99.99% of the time.

Wood is vegetable matter. The original stocks, like all

50 + year old wood dries out and shrinks.

It's a common problem.

Google 7.62X54R .net, it's a Mosin forums.

A lot of the gun's fun is the history.

Is it a round or hex receiver? What year?

Izzy or Tula?

I've got a 1925 Izzy Dragoon, with all original serials,

but when they re-arsenaled it, they gave it a 91/30 stock

and barrel bands.

Just wait till you try a Mosin M44...

Awgh,awgh, R-R-R!!

Definitely the wood moving around. Makes sense, considering it's almost 70 years old. It's a 1943, round receiver I'd assume. I don't have a clue what I got other than it's supposedly a russian made 91-30 haha, I'll get some pics up later of all the markings on it... Will certainly check out that site when I get the time, Thanks. All the serial numbers match except for the bayonet, which I polished the inside (thing didn't want to go on, and when it did it sure as hell didn't want to come off.. Now it's very snug and requires some force to get off and on, but I can certainly take it off and on quickly, just gotta put some muscle behind it. Before, I literally could NOT budge it, I had to get a friend to hold one end and pull out the PB blaster. Hopefully picking up some rounds today, I'm excited... probably won't get to shoot it till tomorrow

It somewhat looks like a hex receiver from what I could tell.

I've got a 42 and a 43, both Ishies... I put one of them in an ATI stock with modern optic and will be cutting it short and the other is going to remain in historic form... This gives me one to abuse and one to admire...

Yeah, it's great to have something for a project gun,

but you want to avoid cutting up the nice ones...

My friend had that issue with the stock seeming loose and he just needed to tighten a couple of the screws. And yes the M44 and M38 are a blast to shoot! I love the shockwave that they give

Shot it today and it seems pretty dead on. I might just be such a bad shot that I can't tell if its "inaccurate" due to the looseness. It was a lot of fun, hopefully gonna pick up some 7.62x54r in bulk soon
