It would probably depend on what you want to use it for. Hunting? Home defense? Plinking / target shooting? Just to have one for your collection?
Most folks like to go with semi-auto for rifles that may be used for defense. Bolt guns are generally preferred for hunting at long ranges, and the lever action .30-30 reportedly has taken more N. American game animals than any other platform. I have two "serious" rifles, one of them a .30-30 lever gun, and one a military surplus 7.62 bolt gun, but I'm not a hunter. I also have two semi-auto .22 cal. plinkers / varminters, both scoped with Leupold optics, and a scoped .17 HMR bolt gun for the same purpose. My defense / SHTF rifles are a custom AR / M-4, and a Mini-14.
