Default Need lightweight

I need a lightweight rifle, looking at one of these in 308.

My question is, are these too light and do they just buck to much. I had a Winchester Featherweight in 270 and it bucked hard, not pleasant to sight in. I just ended up with a negative attitude and left it in the safe untill a friend wanted it and it got traded. I might have to just go 243. But I need lightweight.

This looks like a great rifle. The .243 would be fine. Also, you could not go wrong w/ the 7mm/08 and if you want a lite recoil and still want .30 caliber, the 7.62x39 would also fit the bill.

Savage makes a light weight in 243 and 308. 5.5 lbs light enough?

I agree... I think Savage probably has a fine rifle that would end up a bit lighter than the Hawkeye. I am a Ruger fan but I think there are some better value options in many cases...

What do you think 5.5 lbs in .308 will feel in recoil. I wish I could shoot one. I would hate to just wimp out and get too small of caliber.

If a feather weight winchester 270 was to much for you then you have a pretty extreme recoil sensitivity problem.A light wieght 308 is going to be about the same. I would say the 243 is going to be your best choice.

I would agree, but I'd go with 6MM Remington instead of .243. About 100fps more velocity, and a longer case neck allowing heavier bullets if you need them for large game.
