[99_22-250]

Hello to all

I purchased this Savage 99 two weeks ago. I am now trying to get a complete model identification, the store tag identified it as a 99C. But, I can not find “C” stamped on the gun. This is what I do know:

S/N 190XXX
CAL 22-250
MAG ROTARY
SAVETY LEVER/TRIGGER LOCK
DATE OF MAN. 1917
BARREL ROUND, NO SIGHTS
Stamped on the Lever boss is “D” in a circle.

The photos 99C show a removable box magazine, round barrel with sight and a tang safety.

My questions are:

Did Savage ever chamber the 99 for 22-250? If yes what years and model?
Did any models produced in 1917 have a Monte Carlo stock?

According to my Blue book yes you have a Model 99C that was the only model ever chambered in the 22-250. It is also Rare for the model 99 and adds 50% to the value.

Unfortunately I don't think yours is worth much more than a shooter. It looks like someone has changed the stock and refinished the metal. If this was done I hope you didn't pay more than $300 for it. I MAY BE WRONG on this. But the stock just doesn't look right.

Oh manufacture dates were not 1917 this is a post war model manufactured in 1965 and again in 1995-97.

I would call savage and get the real low down on it.

The serial number on that gun is too WAY too early for it to be configured the way yours is. That is NOT a factory stock. I suspect someone built this rifle using an old receiver.

Good looking gun though. How does it shoot?
