I figured I would post this here because in their current state they are both "rifles".
First off is a new, unfired Marlin XL7 in 30-06. I picked this up for a set of cylinder heads that were given to me. I had no use for the heads but I've been wanting one of the Marlins so the trade was easy. The fit and finish is nice and I like the controls layout over my Mossberg. I picked up the one piece scope mount and bolted a Nikon 3-9x40 to it. I may upgrade the scope to something with a little more zoom but I haven't decided yet. I have yet to shoot it but I'm itching to. I must say, for an economy rifle, the blue is very nice.
I'm not a fan of the camo stock but they aren't hard to change and a lot of guys like them.
Next is a Mossberg 500 with a 22" rifled barrel and a true glow. I traded my Mossberg ATR for it. Keep in mind my ATR was one of the first models so the trigger sucked, fit and finish was not good but it shot well enough to drop deer out to 300 yards. I've seen these rifles sell for $150 used so I felt like it was a reasonable trade. It also came with 2 boxes of Hornady SST slugs.
The 500 has been used but it cleaned up well. it came with the 8rd tube so with a quick barrel change I've got a HD shotgun which is something I wanted. I've also always wanted a slug gun to play with as I have a number of hunting spots where a slug gun would be perfect.
