well, in march of 09 i started a little project, i bought a Mauser gew98 mod-1916 in 8mm;
for $75. I'm making it my hunting rife.

it was sporter-ized, the stock was painted black (ugh).
here is a pic what it did look like.


well i striped the paint off the stock, and stained it; making it look like this


now I'm putting a scout scope mounts on it, but I'm having trouble finding an affordable scout scope, any suggestions on where to find one?

If I was you I'd get the ATI stock....since I like the futuristic look....but I'd read review first.

Good luck with your build! Keep posting pics. You might pick up a decent used scout scope from ebarf or GB, if you look around.

I did one a couple of years back with a beat up Turkish Mauser from Big5. Large ring 98.

I went with an Aimpoint Comp ML3 (2MOA), but can also mount a Meopta 6x42 which is in Leupold QRW rings. Stock is a cheapie Hogue overmolded, painted with Aluma Hyde 2.

got a scope and rings and put it on my old boy, a Simmons pro-hunter handgun scope 3-6x32mm, on weaver rings

Have you fired it yet? How does it shoot? Do you get a decent cheek weld, or is it more of a chin weld?

not fired it yet, ether Tuesday or Wednesday i will go shooting, it's a good cheek weld more like a jaw weld lol
