Just picked this baby up for well under a hundred dollars and im pretty dang pleased about it. Model 91/30 and the action runs very smooth.
Will be making a trip to the range tomorrow morning and see if this old commie has any rifling left in her.

Yep they are very accurate rifles and you will definitely notice after a couple rounds that you shot a Mosin.

I dont know about everyone else, but my mosin is actually quite pleasant to shoot. Except if I let that steel butt plate hit my collar bone. It left a golf ball sized welt last time that happened.

my full length mosin is a lot more forgiving than my m44.

I must agree. I love shooting my mosin. I enjoy the kick that comes with it, but the steel butt plate can make one's collarbone sore. :o

Never thought the 91/30 had any recoil. The M44 had a good push. Come on now boys!

I've never shot anything in my 91/30 but 148 grain surplus, and I don't think the recoil is unpleasant. Would a heavier bullet make the recoil more noticeable?

Not so much the recoil, but just that sharp edge of the plate hitting bone through a tee shirt. I dont care how tough you are, that crap hurts.

Especially when you got hardware in your shoulder, so it may be a little different for those that are not a walking medical experiment like myself.

You set off metal detectors too? Glad I'm not the only one. TSA folks get real weirded out when their wand starts beeping around my head.
