Picked it up finally...ordered it on gun broker.
Springfield M1A Standard.
Ordered some german surplus ammo too. Took it out shooting and instantly fell in love.
Now, to order a ton of 20 round mags.
Better shots to come later...

Congratulations! Welcome to the club. Just remember that if one is good, more is better, they can grow into a fetish.!!
Might I suggest one of these little guys, much tidier than a empty .45 shell case.

Now, that's a rifle. Congratulations, enjoy it. __________________ Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) - a system of government where those least capable of leadership are elected by those least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to succeed or provide for themselves are rewarded with goods and services paid for by wealth confiscated from a diminishing number of people who actually work and produce.

Hahaha, she's not the wife, but while in bed with her she kept complaining when she rolled over onto the rifle. I didn't complain? Eh, she'll get used to it! __________________ If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars make people drive drunk, and spoons made Rosie O' Donnell fat!

Seeing as you brought that up, I have a few questions...
The springfield manual (not the technical manual it came with) doesnt provide very good information on cleaning and maintenance.
I'm planning to pick up an M1A cleaning kit (to go in the butt stock) but I'm wondering what types of oil/grease I should be using, and what parts get greased vs. oil __________________ If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars make people drive drunk, and spoons made Rosie O' Donnell fat!

First of all use the GI cleaning kit for show only. Get a good one piece rod to use in the barrel, preferably a good carbon fiber one. Why would you want to run a multi-piece rod through a barrel like that and risk damage? The grease you hear about most is Tetra gun grease for M1/M1A's. Good stuff but you don't need anything special. Here is a link with good pictures of all the lube points.
