Default My birthday rifle

Well yesterday was my birthday and I decided to do a little gun swapping. Everybody knows I got drawn for the 2010 Ky firearms bull elk lotto by now. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. The pawn shop in town had a Ruger 300 Winchester magnum I had my eye on so I thought I'd try to trade him out of it. I took a RIA 1911 .45 that I only had 250$ in and traded it for that Ruger 300 magnum with a 4x-12x scope. I never shot that .45 cause I have 2 more .45s that I shoot regularly. The 300 shoots sweet too with factory Federal 180 grain loads. Pics to follow soon. I now have a 1st rate elk rifle for this fall. Naturally I'm going to "slick it up" and put a better scope on it.
Sometimes you earthlings REALLY amaze me!

Best of luck on your hunt!! You may want to try some 168gr Barnes XTP's. I did a little penetration test w/ my 7mm Rem Mag. The 140 and 160gr Barnes XTP flat base out penetrated my 175gr inter locks. The 160gr also had no advantage untill the bullet passes 400 yards over the 140. Both the 140 and 160 expanded the same. The only way to tell which was which was to weigh them. 80% weight retention on wet phone books. The 175 was 70% avarage.

Congratulations Bear. I think you got the best of the deal.

An RIA for a bona fide serious long range shooter with enough stopping power to drop every big game in North America?

I bet you have already picked out a place to display the 5x5 or 6x6 antlers you now dream of every night. If not, I have a place for them.

Most excellent, brother. Most excellent indeed.

Do I need to come down there to show you how to sight that bad boy in?
