Ivan says this is the only upgrade the 91/30 needs. Ivan says squeeze a tennis ball until you can pull the trigger on a fine Russian rifle.

Typical Mosin Nagant price - $90-$130

Cost for Timney Trigger - $103.95 plus shipping and handling

Um......no thanks!

Hospital bills and a lawyers hourly rates are much higher though. Just sayin'.

A modified or upgraded trigger isn't essential.

Get a Limbsaver, the best rubber butt stock that you can buy PERIOD! Also a thin tip adjustable front sight post from smith sights is one of the best mods I've done to my 91/30.

As has been mentioned in other threads here, this rifle was designed to shoot long distances, however, not with great accuracy. Most of the sniping that was done with these rifles was under 200 yards. having said that, if I were going to modernize a Mosin Nagant I would start with a synthetic stock, which would have a much better bedding effect than the wood. I think that is the one single thing that would improve your accuracy, assuming that the bore is in good condition along with the rifling in the barrel.

I don't much care for the scope setups I have seen for Mosins. Eye relief is a big deal. What distances are you expecting to get with this rifle? No matter what you do, it will not shoot out past 200 yards as well as just about any modern rifle. If that is your expectation IMHO you are going to spend a lot of money and not be satisfied

Let us know how it turns out! I love my Mosins but if I want long range accuracy I grab my Rem 700 in 30-06

You need to shoot the real thing. 400 yards w/ heavy ball is not an issue. M30(J) Yugo is very good.

This has not been re-arsenaled. It is an original 1942 PU w/ a 1950's scope.

No sex toys!! My 91/30's are pretty timid as far as recoil.

Sergei says "In Russia, you don't shoot rifle, rifle shoot you"...

Sergei also says Ivan, and his recoil pad are soft...

So since this is the "upgrade" thread, I'm gonna ask here.

I would like to put a scope on mine, and looking on eBay I have found a mount that replaces the rear sight with a solid sight and a way to mount a standard scope with rings. I also found a repop of the OE style scope by Firefield. Does anyone have any reviews on this setup? Firefield seems to be the only one doing a replicate of the original that I have seen.

Here's what I am looking at:

http://www.bargainbacker.com/PU-Mosin-NagantSVT-40-Scope_p_816667.html

and the one on eBay:

The eBay one seems to not need any bolt modification. I do like that design.

What y'all think?

Depends on if you want to alter the rifle and have an Authentic looking scope, that requires drilling and tapping for proper installation as well as a new bolt handle.

Or would you be ok with a long eye relief scope that is mounted forward of the receiver, but does nothing permanent to the rifle.

I don't know about the specific mount in the E-bay add. A mount from Brass Stacker gets good reviews.

I like the idea of not modding it, as I am afraid of screwing it up as I like doing stuff myself, and then I also like the idea of it being authentic. Makes it hard to decide, which is why I am looking for reviews on the authentic one.

Actually, a great upgrade. Decreases recoil, and extends LOP.
