this one was in bad shape before i redid it. not as bad as yours but not too far off. i redid it in pink you can pick whatever color.

i made brass parts out of brass sheet and brass stock you can just re-use the original metal if you want

i used denatured alcohol to remove the lacquer finish then sandpapered the crap out of it.

once you do that stain it whatever color you want or use boiled linseed oil (blo) or tung oil for a wood finish

i applied a coat then waited twenty four hours sanded with extremely fine grit sand paper and restained for about two weeks. the old stocks are very dry so it takes a lot of coats to get a good coloring.

if you are concerned with the stock being an issue, then replace it, and store the original. then just enjoy shooting that rifle.
