Like most, I started out with one and before I knew it, I had ten. Have now managed to whittle the herd down to five; replaced by a couple of Marlin Lever Actions. Don't buy one unless you're up to the challenge. Ammo is available from Aim Surplus for under $200 for 880 rounds.

I found this video to be of great help with my first MN. +1 for c3's advice on corrosive ammo - don't forget the bolt face!

I bought one on a whim about a year ago. When I took it home I was surprised by how much i enjoyed looking it's history up. I cleaned it and took it to the range. It was incredibly accurate and a lot of fun!

I'm finally getting around to pick up one. Once I get it and take it to the range I'll put some more up here

Anyone have suggestions on what to buy? I'm looking for one, and there seems to be so much variety that I have no clue what I want. I'd love to get one for under $100, something I can shoot for fun, and maybe hunt with. Sorry for stupid questions, I was raised shooting .22's and shotguns, so as far the world of rifles go, beyond a .22 I'm clueless.

If you have a dunams sport store around wait for any sale holiday then go get one. i got mine for 80 on a random sale day. It came with a bayonet and ammo pack. The model i have is 91/30 and as far as i can tell its the most commen. its seem like a pretty good deer rifle..... i have to wait till oct to find out haha but for 10 bucks i got a recoil pad made for it on ebay and as i type im installing my scout scope mount and then next my 2-7 power long eye relief scope i also got on ebay from utlimate arms, the mount scope and rings all came as a kit that i got for a total with shipping of 50 bucks heres a link for the mount i have and pad, if you get the mosin and you want both just go to ebay and type in mosin nagant butt pad or mosin nagant scout scope and you should find it!

How hard is it to clean these guns? I watched a part of that video, is it possible to clean them without a drill, etc?

80+10+50= a fantastic deer rifle for 140 bucks and when ammo is expensive at 10$ for 20 rounds, well life is just that much better, compared to what i pay for .303 and .45 acp

Some owners get anal about cleaning the corrosive ammo residue from their big ugly brutish Mosin rifles........

you KNOW Ivan had no worries.......

I just clean normally using a good bore cleaner with ammonia - Birchwood-Casey's Bore Scrubber (available at your neighborhood Wally's ) will work fine. I do NOT have bore corrosion problems in my Mosins or other milsurps. After cleaning, run an oily patch through it and place loving into your gunlocker with her siblings - you WILL have more than one Mosin........

The 'drill' thing is to polish the WWII rifle's chamber, as they tended to skip the final polishing to get them out to the line. Same way the newly minted T34 tanks were driven fromt he factory unpainted to the battle line a short distance away.......
Pre-war rifles don't generally have the sticky bolt problem.
