After WW2, when the Soviets had gone to the SKS and the AK47, they took their 91/30s, the M38s and M44s, and ran them thru a depot level rebuild- coated them in cosmoline and put them away in their war emergency stocks. A few years back, they started selling them on the global market. Most are in excellent mechanical condition, fair to good bores, new wood.
You can't buy a rusty .22 for what you would pay for a 91/30- a 500 yd rifle.

They do grow on you, $79.00 and $50.00.
The one on top is a three shot....Red dot scope on top, Red/Green on bottom.

I have...
1929 Izhevsk Hex reciever 91/30
1953 Hungarian M-44 Carbine
91/59 Carbine made with a 1942 Izhevsk 91/30 They are cool guns to shoot especially with a group of folks around. 2 of my 3 are very accurate and have killed deer. Some ammo like S&B, Privi Partisan, Wolf Gold, Wolf Black Box Steel Cased, Hornady and others arent corrosive and actually pretty accurate and clean shooting.
I paid $179.00 for the 91/59. Thats my most expensive one so they can be had for not alot of money if you look around and find a deal. Surplus ammo is cheap and has been plentiful. If you like cool old bolt action rifles, you will love Mosin Nagants.

There is good ammo avail. I reload mine...I know it's not corrosive. The ones available here in Eastern Ky. are not in that good of shape,I'd like a nice one, but until then....

Forget the 91/30 and get a M27 or M39. Finnish Mosins are awesome.....

Love it lmao!
I have also been toying with the idea of buying a Mosin. I've seen on Gun Broker where the price as raised in the last month. Still not too bad though if you shop around. A few on there for $300 but they come with all the accesories, a bayonet, and a hard case. Some are even throwing in some brass on the deal. I think I'll buy an M1 Garand first though.

The CMP has them starting at $525 and cheap surplus ammo, that would be what I'd get instead of a 91/30
