In a strange coincidence, after reading the thread on the Mosin Nagant rifle, I saw one at the range today! The guy shooting beside me had what I think was an old Mauser, and up the line a bit was the Mosin. The two got together to compare the rifles and they were nice indeed. The rounds were pretty loud and you could see quite a bit of muzzle flash. Everyone was praising the accuracy of the guns (and holding their shoulders!) Just makes me more determined to pick one up as I know where a few are at a good price!
I know I've said it before in other posts but stay away from Bulgarian ammo. I've had some split in the chamber and others swell so bad, they refuse to let the bolt withdraw from the reciever. I've even had some in which all of the powder didn't burn. I bought 300 rounds of it for $40 and when I've shot it all up, I won't buy it again. Russian ammo is a better buy, it's more accurate and it's more reliable.
I would probably be dead if I was in combat, cause of the trouble I've had with Bulgarian ammo. It took me about 15 minutes to "kick" the bolt open the last time I fired it.
