i own both and i would not sell my 30- 30 for anything, i would say get the 30-30 then get the mini on your next purchase because you really should own both.they are two diffrent beasts set up for diffrent applications.but alot of fun to shoot.

Price wise the mini would be cheaper to shoot. Right now I can only afford to buy one. Which would you choose?
I have never seen a Winchester Model 1894 with scope mount with see-thru rings, but I would get the .30-30, and as far as a good hunting round goes the .223 is not ant cheaper than the .30-30

Oh and by the way (Intheshop) the .30-30 is NOT a black powder round...............

I have a Marin 336 and it's a great rifle to shoot. I did some changes on the sights. I got truglo front and rear sights. I don't plan on Hunting deer with it. I am planning to get a mini 14 though for the simple reason that I like the mini 14. I use my Marlin XL7 30-06 for hunting. It's up to you and both are a good choice of rifles. Go with your gut. Everybody is a critic. Plan research and go.

i don't have many rifles at all, yet i have a mini 14 and marlin 30-30.

winchester 30-30 is a classic rifle. i am in love with lever actions. they are just great fun to shoot & so handy. the 30-30 is a stout short range round and could be used as an all around gun for almost anything.

the mini 14 is just plain fun & a great gun to tinker with and try and bring the best out of. the ammo is cheaper than 30-30, but I PROMISE you will go through WAY MORE 223 than 30-30.

i don't think you will regret either choice. what other rifles do you own?

Many of you have pointed out that you haven't seen Winchesters with see-through rings and this one is no exception. The scope was mounted off-center, not on top. My mistake.

Google up "Hornady LEVERevolution", the flexible pointy tip makes a 150 yard 30-30 into a 250 yard gun.

I shot some of the Lever Evolution rounds and they are nice. They great increase the accuracy range of the 30-30. They are fun to shoot because they make a "whoosh" sound going through the air.
