Default Mini 14

Have a Mini 14, just purchased it the other day. Shot it for the first time and was using .223 REM 64 grain and it kept jamming. I switched over to .223 REM 54 grain and it shot fine. Anyone know why?

Probably just a matter of breaking it in.

Depends. Factory ammo or reloads? Which manufacturers? Rifle lubed in the first place? Did you try the heavier ammo again after breaking in with the lighter rounds (btw was it 55gr?)

1) if brand new, clean before shooting!
2) using only factory mags?
3) what type of ammo (brass/steel/brand)?

maybe these question might help lead to understanding what was the cause?

I've only had one FTF in my mini in 1700 rounds......but I was told use only factory mags and stick with decent brass ammo. I have stuck to that with good results.
