Was told I should look into one on this forum...found one for 499.99...is that a good deal? Also...what r the problems/positives?

Well here in AR they are $600, so so $500 looks good to me.

I do not own one, so my word dosent count for much. Its a proven action capable of decent accuracy out to 300-400yds or so.

I would have one already if they took nato mags...

New or used? What series? 1st 3 numbers of the serial number give you the series. 181 to 189, 580.

they sell them at the big 5 for about 700 new and also it depends on the model that can change the price.i bought a standard ranch model two years ago for under $800 with tax and paper work.

Idk...I haven't seen it yet. Rifles are expensive :/ I might as well by an AR

I'd get a ranch model, it has the scope mount built into the top if it. They are a good reliable firearm for the money, spend more on an ar and get more accuracy.

minis are great guns and 499 sounds pretty good. i don't have experience with the older models of minis though (197 is before mini improvements), mine is a current production. accuracy in the older minis are generally pretty poor, but a $90 strut will fix that problem.

for a little more than $600, a new mini (which will probably shoot better) or AR awaits. so, i guess it depends on the shape of the gun you are looking at.

$500 is about average for a used mini pre 580 series in a gun store with factory rings. At that price on a private sale it should have the factory rings and some extras like mags and stuff. I have seen 580 series with extras go for $600 which is a much better buy. Grab a Gun will ship a brand new ranch for $642 and you would have to pay transfer fees. You would still be under $675 for a new gun. A Mobar for the older model will cost you $80.

If you just want a plain jane new Mini 14 go to WalMart, $617+tax.
