Mauser extractor failure

Put new scope on 25 imp, used old rounds to sight in, third round stuck in chamber, split neck, kicked primer, sheared off lip of extractor, anyone ever heard of anything like that happening. Replaced extractor, going to start fire forming new brass, throwing away old rounds, prolly milatary 4831 powder, way to old, I hear powder gets hotter over time, learned my lesson the hard way, also wore my safety glasses thank God lol, any brand of brass better or more suitatable for reloading, any info on this subject would be greatly appericated, thanks Gary

Brass may have been work hardened from repeated use. Use new factory ammo when fire forming for your improved chamber and make shure that the chamber is clean and dry. I have never had any problems with my 06 improved..

Thanks for the info Jim, really my fault for trying to use up old hand loads, but learned a good lesson, and hopefully did not hurt the gun any, thanks again Gary
