I personally own two .303

I love them. A 1917, and a 1918. The 1917 is museum quality. i love the 1918 but I have admittedly customed the hell out of it. Kicks like a mule and I reload my own rounds. As for the two rifles you proposed, I believe it is all preference when getting out and using them. I will always love firing my .303. but my favorite is the Barrett m84

So - don't know what it's actual caliber is. Was hoping for some help here at the forum.
I'm interested in these guns historically - but would rather have good shootable rifles with available ammo.
I don't know the chambering history of either gun type - what was common - what was unusual - or what may have become an orphan gun - ammo wise.

Any help you can offer --- I'm all ears!
If you Google, Mauser 98`s you get, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauser_M_98

This is what it says, Cartridge (Various)
