matching a rifle to my orphan scope
ive currently got one of these VX-7 3.5-14x50mm Long Range on top of my winchester model 70 .458 winmag. it is seriously too much scope for the gun. ive used it for the last few years on the 458 as it got displaced off my remington 700 xcr compact in 308 in favor of a Mark 4 4.5-14x50mm LR/T M1.
i would like a nice rifle to put it on but i cant make up my mind. im really fond of 30 and 45 cal rifles but i got enough 458's atm. im undecided. ive been wanting a 30-06 for a long time.
purpose:
range rifle, target shooting, but not benchrest basically plinking at paper gopher targets. i got other hunting rifles.
wants:
i want one i can shoot a couple of 3 shot strings at the range without worrying too much about heat build up after the first 3 shots.
must look nice not tacticool.
i prefer real nice wood stocks in the monte carlo style.
rifle should be high gloss blued and compliment the scope.
dont wants:
thin whipcord style barrel
tactical looks
synthetic stock
semi-auto
stainless or matte or duracoat
suggestion for research appreciated. other options can be considered if you got better idea rifle wise than the guild lines layed out. basically need to put this scope to good use. i do reload so cartridge selection isnt that big a issue.
thanks

Why not put a project of some sort together? There are a bunch of good quality older .30-06's out there. Maybe update an old sporter?
