Marlin 336w

So I just brought home a Marlin 336W 30-30 Lever Action. This is gonna be my new deer & hog gun no range report yet but will have soon.

Some opinions should I keep stock sights, williams peep/Williams firesight, or mount a 1-4x20mm scope? Any other ideas are welcome.

I have an old, over 25 years, Marlin 30-30 lever action Gold Trigger. Was my main deer hunting rifle for the past 20 years but recently replace by a Remington 700, 308. I do have a scope on it but can't remember just now what type. Awesome rifle and extremely reliable. I'll post pictures later but please post pictures of yours.

Thank you mrBull, yours is nice too. I've tried to keep my gold trigger in as good a condition as possible. Just went to http://oldguns.net/ and found out my 336 was manufactured in 1967 which makes it 45 years old. I'm definitely holding on to this baby.

Great gun, congrats. Conventional wisdom is that more deer have been takenwith a .30-30 than any other cartridge. I don't know if that's accurate, but it is believable. They have also been considered good "brush guns,"because of the blunt nose on the bullets, and their effective range was considered to be 150-200 yards.

May I suggest you get your hands on Hornady LeveRevolution ammo, when it again comes available? Hornady figured out that byputting a soft polymer tip on the bullets, there was no danger of impact discharges in the feed tube. The rubber tip can rest against the primer of the next cartridge without being a worry. The added advantage of the polymer tip is to make the bullet more aerodynamic, which along with new powders and metallurgy, will turn your lever gun into an honest, accurate 300+ yard rifle.

Cool video on their web site: http://www.hornady.com/store/leverevolution
