Marlin 336 differences?
2 Attachment(s)
I've searched the web and this site with no definite answer so will try on this forum. I have a Marlin mod. 336 (no letters) lever action 30-30 win. SN. 200528xx. I am trying to figure out which rifle that I have and what is the difference in model #'s. I see there is a 336A,C,CB,Y,SS,etc.. This rifle belongs to my sister-in-law and I told her I would look into selling it for her. I don't know how the model # affects the price.
I sure could use some help.
Thanks, John

You have a regular 336 made in 1980. Some years they did not put the "C" after the 336 but it is the same model. The value varies greatly with geography and condition. From what I can tell in the photos it is in good condition.

I have a 1956 30-30 with a "N" ser. no. Prefix and a 1980 .35 cal ser. No. 2071xxx. The price varies by location and caliber, but in my area, your sisters would go for $400 to $425. I paid a whopping $74.95 for my 30-30 in 1956, still have the Western Auto Store receipt, thanks to my mother, dated May 8, 1956.

You might try the Marlin owners forum. Not sue about the 'A' but the 'c' was a walnut stock. 'Y' is youth model with a shorter stock and barrel. 'SS' is the stainless steel model.

I have had two versions from 1969. One was the curved grip type stock that is in your picture and the other was a straight gripped stock often called a Texan, and it also had a brass saddle ring. Also a 1986 C model. I didn't pay more than $350 for any of them. The 86 and the Texan were pretty well worn but still very good shooters. The other 1969 looked like it was unfired and right out if the box.

The Marlinowners site is a great place to go. A model 336A in 1980 would have a 24in Barrel and a 2/3 length mag tube

I picked up a Marlin 336 in 30-30 too. My SN begins with an MR04. I think that means it was manufactured after 2009. It looks great and the action is smooth. This is a fantastic survival rifle. I hope you enjoy yours for many years to come.
