Sorry to steal the thread but i found a 1989 marlin 336 in .444 and the guy wants $400 and its got a $100 bushnell scope on it. Is that a fair price? He says its in great condition, just waiting for a day hes free so i can go look at it.

Thank you.

In my area, that would be a fair price, but not a good deal. Have you looked at ammo prices?

Ive looked, a little over $1 a round. But i figure i can talk him down to $3-350 and see what happens. Its not like i need the rifle, but i want a lever action and ive been looking for a .357 but around me those are few and far between. Ive seen a couple at the last gun show but they were going for $700+ and i dont want one that bad. Thats why ive been looking for a used lever action and i found this one. Ive been buying the componets i need to start reloading so the cost of ammo will go down for me in a few months but wanted others opinions on the price of it. Thanks

I don't know too much about the 444 round. I hear that more deer are killed with a Marlin 30-30 than any other rifle

The Triple 4 is kinda an enigma. It has great power potential, but it's limited by it's handgun .44 bullets, although I believe there's a couple of bullet makers doing specials just for the .444

The .444 is capable of much higher velocities than the .44 mag and can generally handle heavier bullets, too. Many people say its more comparable to the .45-70 than the .44 mag.
