Default Marking elevation

Got a .270 win the other day and it came with a leaupold 4-12x40 scope on it. I have sighted it in to 100m and was wondering if I could find out where it hits at 200m and so on but mark each one next to my elevation dial. As it is simple scope I'm not sure what will effect it simply because I'm not really sure about the mechanics of a scope. Any tips would also be appreciated.

Guess you are looking for hunting use?? Now I know someone will come by to give better insight to scope adjustments. An average 130gr bullet will strike around 2.14" lower than the bore at 200 yards. BUT your scope height above the bore will change that . 100 and 200 yard groups may be close enough around the same point of aim and not be able to tell them apart. Use a 200 to 300 yard zero. You will still have to go shot your rifle to know what it will do with the ammo you deside to use at different distances to your max range and make notes. That caliber is good for M.O.Heart between the muzzle and 300 yards with a 200 yards zero.

Using my Hodgdon book for an average a 270 Win at 130 grains leaves the barrel at about 2800 fps. So I used my Nosler book to find the drop of an average .270 at that speed. You would be better off zeroing your rifle at 200 yards. Sorry I dont have metric numbers. Anyway if your rifle is zeroed at 100 yards you will hit 3.7 inches low at 200 yards. However, if you zero at 200 yards your rifle would only be 1.8 inches high at 100 yards. zeroed at 200 yards would have an 8 inch drop at 300. But zeroed at 100 is down 13.5 inches at 300. If you zero at 200 you are good at 100. Then just ain 8 inches high at 300. Hope this helps.

If you are planning on hunting, I can't imagine that you would have time to adjust the scope after you see the animal. I went elk hunting last hear. I was using a new rifle. I couldn't get it off safe before the elk ran. I think most people simply aim a little high.
