Would 7.62 x 39mm work in an M44?
|
Try it, then let us know...
|
No. First, it is a RIMLESS cartridge for a semi auto. Your rifle needs a rim to grab to extract the fired round. And to keep the round from going in to the chamber too far. Second, it is too short- that second number is length of case in mm. You need 7.62X54, not 39. The 54 cartridge is also fatter near the base- the 39 case would not be supported, and split.
But if you want to try it...........and anything happens..........can I have your guns? |

The 39mm case will split, probably blow up. No sir, listen to the man he is a GENIUS! Otherwise enjoy your m44!

The round on the far left is 7.62x54r, made for your M44 bolt action carbine. The shorter round to it's right is a 7.62x39 round for the SKS or AK47.

I would never chamber a round not exactly called out by the weapons receiver... I would even be leary about throwing 5.56 in a .223 due to the slight shape and pressure difference... When I put that slab of steel against my cheek and pull that trigger I would like to be able to live long enough to assess my aim... My father had an old .303 blow up due to a bad round that never cleared the barrel being followed by a good round... A very valuable lesson for him and thankfully the harm was minimal... Several days turning into a couple weeks of hearing problems and the first couple days also included intense migraines and light sensitivity... Rather not shoot at all than shoot unsafely...
