Default M1Garand

I would like an M14 but I have a Garand.
I need a barrel and gas block, and a new bolt wouldn't hurt.
Even the receiver has a slight grooving where the bolt roller rides.
that can be welded and finished if need be.
I would like to convert it to a box magazine preferably holding 30 plus rounds too.
Don't know who is doing what with Garands.
Critteon is the only one making barrels but they are to expensive.
Are there sources for new old stock parts?
What about magazine conversions?
I really hate Garand Thumb.

For what it would cost to butcher up your Garand, you could probably buy an M1A. P.S. If you've had "M1 thumb" more than once, you're not paying attention.

I've seen ads in shotgun news for garand parts, but I can't remember any businesses in particular. Maybe grab a s.n. and read away.

gunbroker for nos barrels. they will be inferior to and more costly than criterion barrels if they are true nos.

to prevent getting your thumb wacked use the proper technique. hook a finger or thumb over the charging handle press the rounds in place let the handle go.

ive spent a lot of time on the garand never had it wack me.

there are no mag conversions that actually work.

Tony at garandguy.com For parts.

If you ask for guidance in butchering a Garand he may go for your jugular.

I agree with the others, I would not bubba/"modernize" a Garand. You could sell it to someone who just wants a wall hanger and buy a better functioning Garand (a lot less money than the work you're considering) - or get an M1A if you really want a box magazine. Or get both!

Instead of making a M14 out of your less than perfect M1, by an M14 or M1A. They are available all over.

I like the Garand but somewhere in it's life a bit of the end of the barrel disappeared.
It shoots fairly accurately. I put a new walnut stock on it some time ago. Still have the original.
Some parts wouldn't hurt to be replaced.
If I can't do it right I won't mess with it.
Buyin a new M1A or M14 is fairly expensive in my world right now.
If opportunity that is money permits I will buy an M14....and put a rubber recoil slip on pad on it.

Criterion is not the only company making Garand barrels, there are several options but Criterion is the cheapest $180

If you think Criterion barrels are expensive wait until you price NOS parts
