Thanks for the advice all. Sounds like AR would be the better choice for me. As to why only those 2 as an option, I guess I shouldn't limit myself like that but I want to stay in the .308 caliber and I like the look of both of those rifles.

If it was me, I'd get the M1A.
Not saying anything bad about the AR-10, thats just how I roll

Yunus, if you decide on the AR10 check out LaRue Tactical. Not $2,000, but that is a good start. I have thought about getting one, but hate the idea of adding a new platform. One of my friends has an LRB M25 as well as a POF Piston .308 and another AR10 type. He does not shoot one better than either of the others.

And my M25 shoots fairly well, however.

Here is the first 5 shot group fired after dropping it into a JAE Gen2 stock.

Ammo was Black Hills Match, 168gr and the group was fired fairly fast (in about 20 seconds?). This type of accuracy won't win you any technical competitions, but it will hit any reasonable target out to beyond the effective range of the .308Win round.

I used this rifle and ammo combo in a two day precision long range rifle class a couple of years ago and it held its own against some very nice bolt guns, including a GAP 700 in .308. The 168 showed it's limitations after 900, but it was sufficient at 1,000. All targets were 24"x24" steel plates, out to 1200.

Get which ever one you like best, and know they will both do the job.

A group like that is great accuracy. I'm not into competitions or anything, I just want to hit where I'm aiming and 5 shots into a quarter @ 100 yards is plenty accurate for me.

This kind of all started because my friend is getting a POF 308 and I'm jealous. I introduced him to the brand and now he has their 223 and 308 and I still don't have either. I just can't justify the price, they are wonderful looking guns and very easy to clean as well. Easy to clean is something I value more than most, I guess it's laziness but I loath cleaning my guns.

My buddy's POF is plenty accurate. He has an ACOG on it and it is awesome. He thinks it kicks much more than his M25, but I don't think it does. Feels fine to me.

Get an AR10 platform that can use the PMags, which I believe the POF can do. The DPMS mags suck. Half of them that I have tried are un-reliable.

You did leave out another rifle that fits in this group. The FNH USA-FNAR Rifle

FNAR 7.62x51mm Rifles

I have shot one of these and I really liked it.I like M1A's,but if I was to buy a semi-auto 308 it would probably be a FNH-FNAR. To me it's like having some of the best qualities of both the M1A & AR10 in one rifle.

I believe that the army now uses an AR-10 varient (the Knight Armament M-110) more extensivly than the M1a, which is only used by certian special forces.
