As for Garand thumb, when pulling back the bolt on my nice Service Grade (CMP), the bolt won't really 'ride' on the rear of the follower, but tries to slam forward.

But so many others might have stronger springs, allowing them to pause there, and fool people.
Glad that I read so many bad things about Century-assembled CETMES.

The resolve to avoid any Century semi-auto led to my first Garand last summer, the coolest, most interesting gun I will ever own!
My wife somehow realized before I did that there will be a future companion for the M-1. How can they make such accurate prophesies?
There were two MN 44s for a while (no more), and will always have the two Enfield #5s, but the idea of two Garands did not occur to me until she spoke up.

I love my M1. I got it in what I would call "barely serviceable" condition, but it had good bones. I hand reconditioned the wood and dis-assembled/inspected each part. I was shooting 1.5 in groups at 400 yards until I started loading my own ammunition. Now I shoot 1 inch groups at 500 yards.

I want to start hunting both deer and wild pig with it. I am aware of the weight and size issues that many have experienced and I'm willing to live with that. Anyone got any advise on a good scope mount?

"Barely Serviceable"? And 1.5 inches at 400 yards? Yeah, that's the ticket.

Now with hand loads it is doing 1 inch at 500 yards? Yeah, that's the ticket.

I'm having an issue with my M1, at least I think it's an issue. When I insert a fully loaded clip into the reciever the rifle requires a hefty slap (or 2, or 3) on the charging handle to get in the bolt to chamber the first round and go into battery.

Suggestions?
