M1 Pricing

I was at a gun shop yesterday and saw an old M1 carbine for $350 (It was somewhere in that range at least) and was wondering if this is a good price if the gun is in good shape?

Check to see if it's a Universal, if it is, skip it. If it has original markings, probably a good price. CMP carbines go for around that for rack grade, but they might be out.

The Universal carbine "looks" like the M-1 carbine, but is different. Most people consider these to the the least desirable firearms in this caliber.

If it is a really nice Iver Johnson, that is a fair price. If it is an IJ in fair to good shape, that is a bit high. If it is an issue M-1 in decent condition, that is a fair price.

Thanks guys, I'll look into it.

Here's a link to the CMP page. Authentic carbines are still available, but for more than the $350 you saw. I wasn't clear on passing on the Universal, but like Robo says, it's because it's not a "real" USGI rifle.

Mine's an Inland by the way, manufactured in August of '44.
