M1 garand
Have a m1 garand with a forties receiver on a 52 barrel. My question for garand owners is other then military surplus and horandy's garand ammunition, what 30.06 ammunition can be used?
I like shooting ppu through my Mauser that is chambered in an 30.06, but they don't fit well in the garand clips.

Yeah. Which is why the Mauser stays in the safe most of the time. I'd rather take my little 10 22 out and shoot .22 all day. But every once in a while I like knowing that I'm shooting a gun.

A LGS sells 8mm Mauser ammo for about $.50 a round I believe, still not cheap and its surpus stuff.
I had a chance to buy a German 7mm Mauser, Kreigsmarine rifle, used on a U-boat. It was only $60.
The whole rifle was pitted terribly and looked like trash, had a clean bore though.

The CMP sells really great Greek HXP .30-06 for .50 a round. Good brass for reloading, get it while it's available.

I also use a Schuster plug, @40$, if you can find them.
You can then adjust for any 30.06 ammo, without
tearing up the gas system.
I've also found that, without the plug ,the
Garand shoots pretty much any standard
150 grain 30.06 ammo fine.
What you want to avoid is lighter rounds, with "barrel burner" loads,
and the hot loads with 180+ grains, for dangerous game, and such.

I gave my M 1, M 2 Carbine, and M 14 to my son for his collection......I reached the age where the recoil is just too much for me after several shots.......He soon will get My Colt C 4 and two AK 47s for the same reasons.
I have gone over to the dark side and am using 22 cal military look a likes.
