M&p 15/22

Does anyone have this rifle? Do you like it?
What are the pros and cons?

My wife thinks she wants one. I would rather get one in .223 but she wants a .22

Should I be worried about buying one?

It's a great rifle, I have about 1,000 rounds through mine (which isn't a lot compared to some who have 10,000+ thru theirs), and have only had a few failure to fires, which I attribute to the ammo as it would't fire even after being struck several times. I plan on getting a silencer to share between it and my ruger 22/45. One thing you should know is that the lower receiver cannot be used to build off of, it is formed really close to standard ar-15 lowers but is slightly different to prevent that. The S&W magazines are really good.

The only way you can get closer to the real AR function with a .22 is to build a .22lr AR. The others that are standalone .22's like the colt, h&k, mossberg, etc. underneath have very little similarities to an AR-15. But with that said, I have heard that the colt and H&K do run well. The Colt and H&K are I believe both imported by Umarex the paintball company that does the GSG-5 (MP-5 clone), and simply branded with Colt and H&K's name.

The M&P 15-22 has a sterling reputation. There are threads on here folks have posted expressing their satisfaction with the M&P 15-22.

I agree they don't get any better than the 15-22, in this configuration. It certainly comes ahead of the Ruger 10/22 in field stripping and maintenance, but especially in upgrades. You can drop in a competition trigger and a lot of other stuff made for the real AR15. Downside? Nothing serious, only the price is about $150 more than the Ruger. But it is still reasonable for what you get.

Sweet. I think I'll see if I can score one on Friday for the wife.
This is huge for her. When I got married she was very Anti gun. She flipped out when I got a 10/22 for 120bucks said that there was no way it would ever come into the house then when I inherited some of my grandpa's guns she had no choice to keep them out.

Now she has a ccp, her own carry gun and wants the m&p 15-22.
Not too bad for 4 years of marriage.
Hope everyone has a fantastic turkey day!

I've had mine for over a year, several thousand rounds through it. Very fun rifle to shoot and plink with. My gf loves it as well. Good luck and enjoy!

it is probably easier to get .223 ammo at this point than it is to get .22LR. My wife shoots the heck out of mine (S&W MP15); she is sensitive to recoil and says she really can't feel it when she shoots. Her shooting the center out of a playing card at 50 yards, only using a red dot and no magnification is a testament to that.

Plus, your gun can do so much more in .223. Everybody says .22lr is going to come back. My question: when?

Love it! It's my "more fun than a barrel of monkeys" gun.
