Default Lube choices

Having read many articles and threads on gun cleaning and maintenance I have yet to see a consensus on the use of lubricants. Many are proponents of commercially produced firearm lubes, others prefer off-the-shelf motor oils, still others use high temp bearing grease...so what say you FTF? Are they all equally effective, what are the pros and cons of each, any other "secrets" to be revealed?

My answer is M-Pro 7 Gun Oil LPX. It is a very high quality synthetic with additives.

Where grease is recommended, use Hoppe's #9 Gun Grease.

In a pinch, you can go to any auto parts store and buy a can of white lithium grease. It will work fine and will not wear off.

Wipe down the outside of the gun with a silicone pad.
