Default Looking for a new lightweight/compact .243

I'm looking for a new .243 rifle. The only one I've looked at so far is the ruger m77 hawkeye compact. But I'm looking for some more options. I'm not as familiar with bolt rifles as some of you are. Looking for a .243 bolt gun with a nice 16-18" barrel. Something I can easily move around the truck and in the thicket. Thanks guys. What are you using it for, hunting or paper punching? If hunting then what?

Either way you can never go wrong with a Remington 700 .243, personally I have never shot the 700 in the .243 caliber but I own a 700 in both 22-250 and .308 and I love them. Very smooth and extremely accurate and time tested.

I have a Kimber that is under 6 lbs, but the barrel is longer than you are looking for. If you can deal with a little more barrel the Kimber is a great shooting rifle.

I am not a fan of the 243, so I bought a Rem 700 Youth in 7-08 (it is offered in 243, 7-08, and 308 Right and Left handed). It don't get much smaller/lighter than that. The spacers for the length of pull are available also.

I had a Remington Model 7 stainless in HS precision stock, it was light but shot decent.
The bbl was of thin profile, if of heavier I'd have kept it. IIRC the bbl was 20".

Also had a 600 in .243 at the time, and it shot a little better than the Model 7.

Sold that too, and just stuck with my 700 ADL synth. I run 4350 so short barrels are extra noisy.
Won't run less than 22" these days.
