I agree on the Rugers accuracy, I have conducted some of my own tests over the years with several rimfires and some bolt action centerfires and have always found the other brands do generally shoot a tighter group out of the box, that is not to say Ruger is junk, they are some of my favorites, I would take a Ruger 77 over any of the budget bolt actions they are bringing out nowadays. There is nothing wrong with them for a good shooting hunting rifle but if I were looking to punch 5 shots at 1/4" at 100 yards I would look elsewhere. I don't have experience with the Ruger #1 though it seems to be held in high regard by all who are into them, I find them high priced for what they are. I currently have a Thompson Encore with the 50 cal barrel, I want to get a varmint barrel for it to have a nice lightweight hunting rig.
