Default Looking for a good single shot 30-06 rifle

Den trying to find a good 30-06 rifle. Thinking of the Rossi Wizard or that style to be able to switch out barrels. Anyone have their input. Just wanting to get people's opinions

Rossi is not that great in quality. I gave one to one of my grandsons and was not that impressed after shooting it. I would choose an H&R over a Rossi. I currently have an H&R in 357 mag. For quality with interchangeable barrels you will probably have to look at Thompson. For non interchangeable I would go to a Ruger 1A or any of the #1 rifles. I had a #1A along time ago and it was a great rifle.

Seems like a good rifle to me.. I've had a lot of experience with the tri fecta and all three barrels have been accurate and reliable.. 22, 20g and 243 . I've seen the different barrels for sale on eBay and amazon for under $200..

A good single shot? My vote is the Ruger #1. While I never think of Rugers as the most accurate rifle ever made that are probably the most durably built, and more then accurate enough for hunting purposes.

Handi rifle. I've had mine (30-30) since I was a kid and it is still very accurate. My favorite rifle to hunt whitetails.

I'd sure like to see a shoot off of some sort involving Ruger vs the "quality" brands. Guessing that would be Winchester.

Default Good single shot

A Friend of mine currently owns a Rossi and I have owned two Handi's. IMHO Quality control is currently lacking in both of these rifles. After looking at, handling and firing my friends Rossi, I wouldn't want it. I've owned two Handi's the first one I bought about twenty years ago it was a .223 and it was a good gun and a good value, sold it to a friend's son two years ago and he couldn't be happier. I bought a second Handi about five years ago a 22-250 it wasn't so good, nothing like the older version. I couldn't trade it in fast enough. My opinion for what it's worth is to save your money and if you have to have a single shot buy as others have suggested a Ruger number 1 or perhaps a used older Handi rifle or if you want to be able to switch barrels a Thompson. I hate to step on anyone's toes but I believe you should Buy once/Cry once.

If you want a basic 30:06 single shot deer rifle, get a Handi Rifle. I have one in .280 rem. i have two friends that have parked there 7mm rem mags and started shooting Handi Rifles, one a 308 and the other a 270. Neither shoots bench rest, but they do shoot minute of venison.

If you want a little more, non-break action, etc. get the Ruger 1,

i too would have to say the Ruger #1 in 30-06 would be hard to beat. i have shot several of them in different calibers over the years. hands down, one very accurate rifle. they can be a bit pricey, but IMO, definately worth it.
