It's an effen' deer rifle (white tail, black tail) .243 Win is more than enough to get the job done. And why and auto feeder? A bolt gun is what should be used here. Jeeeze!!!!!!!!!

Again just my .02 cents worth.

uhh...did you read the whole thread? Because that's what his wife wants! Doesn't mean that's what HE wants.

Thanks, jpattersonnh, but a 742 of mine is what Wife is already using, and finds too heavy.

The browning sounds good. My wife likes my full size BAR (she's afraid to shoot it though). They used to have a good selection of cals available.

Don't forget that a couple pounds lighter rifle will reduce the fun factor with the shoulder.

Isn't there a limit for having to repeat yourself???

DefaultFinally got Wife her deer gun.

I took Wife and her 22-y.o. son to the big Wanenmacher gun show today here in Tulsa. After looking at, and handling quite a few rifles of various sorts, she finally found one she liked, at a price she liked - a 30-30 Glenfield (Marlin) model 30A, for $300. I know it's not a great collectible, but she likes how it feels, it's clean and not beat up, and I think she'll be happy with it in the brushy oak woods where we hunt now.

Her son picked up a Winchester Model 94 (post-'64), also $300, also 30-30.

All in all, I think they'll both be satisfied.

Those old Marlin lever actions were very sweet,I am sure she will be very happy with it,millions of Marlin lever owners cant be wrong.

Its possible the weight is why she is missing, Teach her how to shoot and buy her a light weight deer rifle. What mag capacity do you think would be adaquate to ensure a kill? Might want to go full auto!

The only lighter semi-autos I can think of are the Remington carbines (basically just a 742/750 with an 18.5" barrel vs. the 22" barrel of the regular version) and the BAR ShortTrac (which is kinda pricey). Oh, and she's a lefty.

I'm kinda thinking if we go with a .308, the shorter action will cut some weight also.

The ARs, AKs, and other military-look guns ain't happening, as neither of us feel they are attractive aesthetically, and not anything we want to hunt with.

Any suggestions are welcome.
I own a 760 thats quite similar but I thought it weighed about seven pounds [guess] i'm a 5" foot 6 woman and it is comfotable to carry,at least for awhile and the slide action is fast for follow up shots.
