Default Looking For A .22 Hornet Rifle, any suggestions?

Hello,

I've begun a selection process for a rifle in .22 Hornet.

Specs must be these:

Left handed bolt action

Four to five round capacity

Heavy, or semi-heavy, barrel, no sights

preferably MOA accuracy from the box with good hand loads

D&T for a 'scope mount

Reasonable price, similar to that of a Savage

Does anyone know of any rifles like this? The Ruger M77 would be awesome, as would a number of Savage rifles, but they're chambered in .223 on up. I'd really like that lil' .22 Hornet. I figure it will save on powder and will do anything I need it to do out to 200 or 300 yards.

It would potentially be a squirrel gun, so I can't have it passing through trees and stuff.

In other words, I'd like something more powerful than the .22 Long Rifle, but with more potential than the .22 Magnum.

I've never really latched onto the .17 calibers. Seems a mite explosive to me.

Any help?

Thanks,

Josh

Ruger makes a 77/22 Hornet with a 5 rnd rotary box mag. CZ makes a nice 22 hornet.

Here you go use the Gun Genie at galleryofguns.com

You got 4 to pick from. 1 CZ 2 Rugers and 1 savage.

the hornet is not a very popular round anymore.

Hornet is not as popular as it once was, but I LOVE it. But to get any kind of accuracy you will need to reload, and case life is short due to the amount of stretching. You will need to trim just about every time.

I think Browning offers a left handed A-Bolt micro in Hornet. NEF has their single shot, as does T/C (I had one and loved it).

Anschutz does not offer a Hornet any more, but they did make them and I'm pretty sure they had them in LH. I have a couple of Anschutz .22's and they are insanely accurate.

I had an H&R Handi-Rifle in .22 Hornet for a while, it shot OK but the trigger pull was brutal. Couldn't trip it with my 12 # pull scale. I like the cartridge though, lots of pop out of 6 grains of 2400.

A buddy of mine bought a Ruger 77/22 hornet. After a year of frustration he sent it off to a smith. They tightened up the bolt(2 piece), Re reamed the chamber as it was not spec, bedded the action, lightened the trigger, Lapped the barrel. $250.00 later it finally shoots. He had sent it back to Ruger before. They did nothing and charged him quite a bit.
To bad the CZ does not come in left hand.

One of my projects is going to be a 77/22Hornet I am then going to send it to a guy in PA and have a shilen barrel put on it chambered in 17 AI Hornet. My buddy here has one and OMG that thing is so accurate it is crazy. I was out shooting and he showed up to the range with it and was fire forming some brass he said here you shoot it cause your eyes are better than mine. With the fire forming loads I was shooting 5 shots that were all touching in a nice little cluster right smack dab in the middle of the target at 100 yards.

You can also just buy a used LH short action Savage/Stevens rifle and change the barrels to a 22 hornet.
